QUEZON CITY — Iniutos ng Office of the Ombudsman sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) ang agarang imbestigasyon sa sunog na tumama sa gusali ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bureau of Research and Standards sa Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City noong Oktubre 22, upang matukoy kung ito ay sinadyang pagsunog o may kaugnayan sa kasalukuyang imbestigasyon sa flood control corruption.

“The Ombudsman has directed the immediate coordination with the NBI and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to determine the cause of the fire to establish whether arson or any deliberate act was committed,” ayon kay Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.

Nagsimula ang sunog bandang 12:39 p.m. at umabot sa third alarm sa loob lamang ng 17 minuto. Idineklara itong under control ng mga bumbero bandang 1:34 p.m. at tuluyang naapula pagsapit ng 1:49 p.m..

Ang insidente ay naganap sa gitna ng masinsinang imbestigasyon ng Ombudsman, Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), at Senate Blue Ribbon Committee kaugnay ng mga ghost at substandard flood control projects ng DPWH. 

Ayon sa ICI Chair Andres Reyes Jr., “There is the tendency for criminals to burn down the office,” kaya’t inatasan na rin ang Commission on Audit (COA) na siguruhing ligtas ang mga dokumento nito.

Bagama’t sinabi ng DPWH na walang dokumentong may kaugnayan sa flood control ang naapektuhan ng sunog, nananatiling bukas ang posibilidad ng foul play habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon ng NBI at BFP.
